INDIANAPOLIS— On Monday, State Senator Jim Arnold (D-LaPorte) addressed a number of Hoosier veterans at the opening of a Veteran Employment Transition Seminar (V.E.T.S.) with the Indianapolis non-profit organization Operation: Job Ready Veterans (OJRV). Sen. Arnold noted the high unemployment rate of veterans in the state of Indiana and the unique utilization of services provided by OJRV in placing veterans in positions with companies around the state.
“Our veterans have sacrificed so much for the state and for our great country,” said Sen. Arnold. “We in the legislature do all we can to create opportunities and provide services for our veterans, but organizations like Operation: Job Ready Veterans do an amazing and complimentary job at filling in the gaps that the legislature cannot fill.”
OJRV was founded in 2007 by a small group concerned about the growing plight that veterans had in transitioning to the civilian workplace. The organization began as the Crane Learning and Employment Center for Veterans with Disabilities, with a focus on helping veterans find employment at Naval Surface Warfare Center located in Southwest Indiana.
OJRV is dedicated to preparing veterans for successful employment. The nonprofit connects job seeking veterans with employers that need top quality, well-trained men and women for their workforce. They assist veterans of all ability levels with their employment and career goals by focusing on customized job placement; not simply referral to open jobs.
Sen. Arnold led the seminar in the pledge of allegiance and gave opening remarks thanking the group for their military service while praising the unique services OJRV will provide veterans seeking civilian employment.
