Dear Hoosier Educators,

From all of us in the Indiana Senate Democratic Caucus, we want to say thank you for everything you do on a daily basis to set our students on a path to success. It is only because of your dedication, your heart and your resilience that Indiana has some of the best and brightest students in the country. Our caucus is committed to doing all we can to improve the lives of teachers in our state and to attract more young people to the noble profession. Unfortunately, some policy-makers in Indiana often show disrespect for our valuable educators, but we will never stop fighting on behalf of each of you for better salaries, opportunities and resources.

Our appreciation for our teachers lasts well before and long after Teacher Appreciation Week and while you have a much deserved summer break on the horizon, we recognize that when students are gone, you never find that your work is actually done. So thank you for those extra hours you put in before the first bell rings in the morning and after the students flee your classrooms at the end of the day. Thank you for the professional development opportunities you attend in the summers and those summer days you spend teaching summer school, organizing your classrooms and planning next year’s lesson plans. We know your work is never done and that’s why we will never be done working for you.

We hope you have been showered with gratitude this Teacher Appreciation Week but also hope you remember that it is not just a few days in May that you are thought of or recognized, it is 365 days a year. Without you, Indiana would be lost.
