INDIANAPOLIS – State Senator J.D. Ford (D-Indianapolis) released the following comments in response to the closing of multiple General Motors plants which will cut up to 14,000 jobs in North America.
“My heart goes out to the workers and their families who must now deal with the process of losing a job and searching for new employment right before the holiday season. We should stand in solidarity with our neighbors because we’ve seen the toll these situations have on families right here in Indiana. Indianapolis’ own General Motors stamping plant closed almost ten years ago, and I personally knew workers who abruptly lost their jobs in that closure. Indiana lawmakers and officials must make it a priority to stand with our unions and support Hoosier working families in times of need.”
Sen. Ford represents Indiana Senate District 29 which includes portions of Marion, Hamilton and Boone counties. For more information on Sen. Ford, his legislative agenda or other State Senate business call 1-800-382-9467 or visit www.IN.gov/S29.
