On Monday, the Indiana Senate hosted Foster Parent Appreciation Day.

Families from each Senate district were invited to a day at the Statehouse, where they were honored for their care of Indiana’s children.

Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson), Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) and State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) were joined by Gov. Eric Holcomb and Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch to address the guests.

“I hold the parents of foster families to high esteem, and I value the efforts they make to better our communities,” Sen. Lanane said. “Foster parents are selfless people, and it’s imperative we show them our gratitude.”

The event included a tour of the Capitol building, a Senate Resolution during the legislative session honoring the foster families, and a lunch featuring speeches from elected officials. The families were also invited to meet with their Senators one-on-one after lunch for an opportunity to share their experiences and address concerns that they may have.
