INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana Senate Democratic Caucus is handing over their Twitter account tonight during the governor’s State of the State address, giving followers a chance to hear real reactions from everyday Hoosiers. A classroom teacher, an entrepreneur, and a college student will take the reigns and share their thoughts, tweeting from the official handle of the Indiana Senate Democratic Caucus, @INSenDems.

“So often, Twitter becomes an arena for talking points and posturing,” said Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson). “We’d like to take this discussion out of the political echo-chamber and into everyday context.”

The line-up for this evening’s @INSenDems Twitter Takeover will feature the following tweeters:

Jamar Cobb-Dennard, @jamarspeaks, is an entrepreneur and sales recruiter at Hire Sales. Cobb-Dennard has built small businesses ranging from $800-$30,000 in monthly sales entirely through networking, and was recognized as the Rainmakers Rookie of the Year, and a Top 50 Business Connector. Additionally, Cobb-Dennard is a Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series graduate, was recognized as a 2013 Emerging Leader by 100 Black Men, and is an Indianapolis Business Journal Forty-Under-40 award recipient.

Gabrielle McLemore, @gabbymclemore, is a sophomore at Indiana University Bloomington where she is working towards a degree in journalism and education. McLemore is a native of Columbus, Indiana and hopes to one day pursue a career in journalism.

Marc Williams, @mrkinetik, is a Special Education teacher at Fall Creek Valley Middle School. Williams recently finished his Master of Arts in Education Administration and Supervision from Ball State University and is a graduate of Butler University where he serves as the Men’s Basketball On-Court Promotions Emcee. In addition to his time in the classroom, Williams is a musician, songwriter, producer and DJ.

Additionally, the Twitter Takeover will feature special guest tweeter and former Indiana Senate Democratic Leader Vi Simpson. As one of Indiana’s most effective and respected leaders, Simpson has spent a career fighting for causes that matter most to Hoosiers.

First elected to the Indiana State Senate in 1984, Simpson has worked to make health care more affordable and accessible for all Hoosiers. She’s led the fight to restructure the state’s economy so businesses and workers can more effectively compete in the global marketplace and she’s been a tireless advocate for improving Indiana’s public schools and universities. Simpson, who served as Monroe County Auditor before joining the Indiana General Assembly, received her law degree from Indiana University School of Law. She has two adult children and four grandchildren.  She resides in Ellettsville with her husband, former State Senator Bill McCarty.

Those following the @INSenDems Twitter Takeover are encouraged to engage with feature tweeters and share their thoughts using the hashtags #INSOTS and #INLegis. Governor Pence’s State of the State address will begin at 7 PM EST and expected to last 30 minutes.
