On Friday, the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC) outlined four steps of immediate action for Governor Holcomb and local government leaders to implement to reform the state’s criminal justice system. The action steps can be found here. Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson) expressed his backing of the IBLC’s justice reform agenda and pledged the Senate Democratic Caucus’ support to see these measures implemented.

“What the IBLC calls for are common sense and easily attainable steps to quickly reform our criminal justice system,” Sen. Lanane said. “We have all seen the ways the criminal justice system negatively impacts our minority communities. If the governor is serious in his willingness for action, then he must endorse these steps and commit to a quick plan of implementation.

“The Senate Democrats stand wholeheartedly with the IBLC in support of these measures and our fellow black and brown Hoosiers. We are ready to do whatever we can, both now and in the legislative session, to make sure our criminal justice system treats all Hoosiers fairly, no matter their background or color of their skin.”
