On Monday, Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson) filed a caucus priority bill. His legislation would establish a nonpartisan commission charged with drawing Indiana’s next legislative district maps. Sen. Lanane had the following comments on the proposal:

“The 2020 session is our final opportunity for the next decade to get things right when it comes to redistricting in Indiana. The people deserve to have their vote fairly counted; however, the current design of the system allows politicians to choose their voters instead of the other way around. A nonpartisan body would put the power of choosing legislators back where it belongs: in the hands of Hoosier voters.”
