The Indiana Senate Democrats are excited to celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In recognition of this day, we come together to memorialize one of America’s most revolutionary advocates for racial justice and equality.

Dr. King is remembered for his unrelenting determination to break down barriers and promote change, even in the face of endless opposition. So, today we commemorate the values that he exemplified so radiantly, such as justice, empathy, truth and understanding.

Dr. King once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hare; only love can do that.”

This holiday provides a unique opportunity to rediscover the principles that he inspired; principles that were evident in his dream of a nation that embraced people of every race and creed.  In our current age of increasing intolerance towards individuals because of their sexual orientation, race, gender, or faith, it is more important than ever to remember Dr. King’s principles of unity, equality and reconciliation, and try to live by them every day.

We encourage you to take time this MLK Day to do something to celebrate Dr. King. You can find free events all throughout Indianapolis here:
