Next Tuesday, November 19, thousands of educators from across the state will converge at the Indiana Statehouse to show the state government why teachers and schools deserve support.
For too long, legislative leaders and the governor’s office have ignored pleas for livable wages for teachers. They have ignored advice that our school accountability system harms public schools, students and educators. They have bled millions of dollars of funding from public schools into charter and virtual schools even though 90 percent of Hoosier kids attend a public school.
Well, enough is enough, and the Indiana Senate Democrats are so excited to welcome our Hoosier educators for the #RedForEd rally this Tuesday. The Senate Democrats are on the side of our public school teachers. Last session, we fought for the only bill in the Senate that would have given teachers an immediate five percent raise. Senate Democrats have decried the constant changing that standardized testing and school accountability systems muster. Next legislative session, Senate Democrats will work to remove externship requirements from teacher licensing.
Share Your Stories
Educators, you have stories to tell, and we want to share them. Members of our team will be available to record your stories, to take your pictures or to video your testimony. If you have a story to tell – if you want to be heard – we are here for you. Our team will be walking around during your rally to meet you with our cameras and notepads. You can also come by the Senate Democrats reception desk – on the third floor, west side of the building, to the left of the Senate floor viewing window – and let us know that you want to share your testimony on video or by photo. We will make sure to have someone meet you there to record your thoughts.
Indiana has forced you to use your teacher’s voice, and the Senate Democrats hope to keep that voice ringing loudly so all of the state’s leaders can hear.
