INDIANAPOLIS –On Monday, State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) expressed disappointment in the Indiana Senate’s failure to advance Senate Bill (SB) 439, establishing a bias-motivated crimes law in Indiana.

“Again this year, the Indiana General Assembly failed to offer protections that are extended to others in 45 states in this country.

“It is beyond time that we address this issue. Especially, after a weekend in which a Jewish community center and a bar in Indianapolis were targeted with threats based solely on those who attend these establishments.

“I will continue to work with my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle to ensure that Indiana becomes the 46th state to enact this type of legislation next year.”
