INDIANAPOLIS – The latest version of the state’s two-year budget was released by Republicans today. Incredibly, money to study solutions to Lake Michigan’s shoreline erosion was removed. State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Ogden Dunes) had the following remarks about the omission of lakefront funding:

“The new budget completely ignores Northwest Indiana, and I am extremely disappointed and frustrated by this move. For weeks, it was assured that the $800,000 pledged to protect the Lake Michigan lakefront from erosion would stay in the budget. Now, the Republicans have stripped all beach funding from the budget without any explanation. The needs of our lakeshore communities have been wiped out of the budget completely.”
