State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Ogden Dunes) had the following response to the governor’s teacher pay proposal released in his State of the State address:

“Well that proposal sounds familiar doesn’t it? If you push long enough, they take the idea and make it their own. I have been advocating for my teacher pay solution for about a year now, but it is not about who gets the credit for the idea. It is about making it happen.

“I am pleased that the governor saw the value in my teacher pay bill, Senate Bill 306. Unfortunately, his plan is only half the money and a year too late. We could absolutely enact this plan now and get that money to our Hoosier teachers this year. Our educators deserve an immediate pay raise.”
