INDIANAPOLIS–On Tuesday, the Senate voted 40-9 in favor of Senate Bill (SB) 383, authored by State Senator Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis). The proposal would require educational institutions in Indiana to report their progress on accomplishing goals set out by the Governor’s Commission on Minority, Veteran and Women’s Business Enterprises to the State Budget Committee.

“SB 383 is a top priority for the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, and I am encouraged that it has received overwhelming bipartisan support in the Senate. My proposal aims to ensure that contracts between educational institutions and minority, veteran and women owned businesses are upheld,” Sen. Taylor said. “It’s important that the goals set by the governor’s commission are actually being met, and requiring educational institutions to report their progress will result in more transparency and highlight which institutions are successfully accomplishing those goals.”
