Below are some of the bills Senator Mrvan worked on during the 2019 legislative session.
Sex offenders in child services
This session, Senator Mrvan made it his mission to pass legislation that makes children safer in our state. Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 258 has been signed into law by the governor and makes it illegal for registered sex offenders to work in a facility that provides child care services. This was an essential step to close a loophole in previous law and provide Hoosier children with important protections from convicted sex offenders.
Supervised child visits
Another piece of legislation Senator Mrvan worked hard on would require parents convicted of crimes against children to be supervised during legal visitation with their children. This language was amended into SEA 323 and will go a long way toward ensuring the safety of our children.
Resolution to study counselor shortages
The General Assembly approved my resolution urging a study into the shortage of school counselors in Indiana high schools. I was grateful that my colleagues came together to advance this legislation, as it is important to school safety and the success of our students. Counselors play a critical role in students’ lives, so we must find a solution to this shortage.
