Below are some of the bills Senator Niezgodski worked on during the 2019 legislative session.
Fought for adoptive families
After listening to the pleas of thousands of foster and adoptive families, Senator Niezgodski was initially able to get a mandatory adoption subsidy proposal into the budget. Incredulously, the supermajority ended up stripping mandatory adoption subsidies from their budget altogether, against the wishes of adoptive parents and a bipartisan coalition. After hearing of this deletion, Senator Niezgodski authored a resolution to study the way the Department of Children Services assesses foster children so their adoptive families can hopefully be awarded fair subsidies in the future.
Assisted Hoosiers affected by natural disasters
Massive floods in recent years have left many Indiana families devastated from the destruction that wrecked their homes. Senator Niezgodski’s proposal, Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 513, doubles the amount of money Hoosier families can receive for property damages that result from natural disasters. It was recently signed into law by the governor.
Helped Hoosier airline workers
Until recently, Hoosier airline employees were able to swap shifts to better manage their personal lives. Senator Niezgodski is proud that his proposal, SEA 512, was signed into law this session. SEA 512 will allow airline employees to start swapping shifts again, helping them to manage taking time off and balancing their lives with job responsibilities.
